A migrant farmworker is defined as an individual who is required to be absent from a permanent place ofresidence for the purpose of seeking employment in agricultural work. The migrant workers of world have been and currently are suffering. They live in poverty and are constantly looking for work. Currently, there are approximately 175 million migrants around the world and roughly half of them are workers. When these people find work, most of the time there are very poor working conditions and are paid close to nothing. All that these workers are doing is working very hard for a better life for themselves and their family but, they are being treated like second class citizens. Farm work is actually listed as the second most dangerous occupation in the United States behind mining (Migrant Clinicians Network).

There are countless accounts for many different people about their life on being a migrant worker. For example, and also, Cajas de Carton are both excellent stories about the day in the life of the migrant worker and their family. Both of these really get you thinking about how awful some of the working conditions are and how bad you feel for those people. They really do touch your emotions and are a great read.

A localvore is a person whose diet is only or partially of locally grown or produced food. Choosing to buy and eat locally grown foods is important to your own health. This is because once produce is harvested, it loses most of its nutrients. If the produce is grown locally, it gets to the consumer quicker and they get the most out of their food. Also, local foods generally taste better. By buying local, you are receiving the freshest possible produce, picked just hours before delivery to your local store. Produce that travels long distances is days older. Sugars turn to starches, plant cells shrink, and produce loses its flavor (Do Something).

Another reason why buying local produce is a good idea is because you would be supporting local farmers and your community as a whole. The American family farmer is dwindling and fewer than 1,000,000 people (less than 1%) of Americans claim farming as a primary occupation. It’s hard to make a living when they only get less than 10 cents of every retail food dollar. By buying locally, the middleman disappears and the farmer gets the full retail price, in turn helping farmers continue to farm. Also, by getting to know the farmers who grow your food, you build a trust and a connection to your neighbors and your community. Visiting local farms with your friends and your family brings that education and appreciation to the next generation (Do Something).

This page is dedicated for information on food inequality throughout the world. Food security refers to the availability of foodand one's access to it. Food inequality has become a growing issue world wide admit has been said that hunger starts with food inequality. Some of the most poverty stricken countries have made the most progress toward reducing the number of hungry people while the some of the most wealthiest of countries are not doing their responsibilities to to help and end world hunger. There is a lot of debate around food security. Some people argue that:
There is enough food in the world to feed everyone adequately; the problem is distribution.

    WHO
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that nearly 870 million people of the 7.1 billion people in the world, one in eight, were suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2010-2012 (World Hunger). This number has of course increased in the last 2 years and will continue to increase.
