Does it get any easier than this? This is a SUPER simple snack (or dessert) that anyone can make with ingredients that everyone likely has on hand at all times. This snack is great because it’s easy, cheap, and very healthy. You’ll eat this banana and think you’re enjoying a delicious dessert, but you’ll finish feeling completely guilt-free. I particularly like this recipe for its simplicity. I know it’s something even the worse cook could master because there is no cooking involved! I also love that it’s a very healthy alternative to other high-sugar, processed, fatty desserts. This recipe is perfect for our college cookbook because it meets the needs that students have: Food that is CHEAP, EASY, HEALTHY, ACCESSIBLE, AND DELICIOUS.

There’s no guilt in eating this treat, unless you consider the film, “Bananas!*” This is a documentary about the mistreatment of the employees working for Dole Fruit Company picking bananas. Dole was outraged when the film surfaced because it was exposing the truth about their business. They sprayed pesticides over the banana crops while workers were still picking the plants. Some workers got very sick from the dangerous chemicals, some even died. Dole did not want to take responsibility for its actions and tried to ban the film from being shown. The film producer fought hard to keep his film available for view but it took a very long time, with a lot of effort and money spent in the process. Eventually, Dole lost the case and the film was released for public view. Dole and its horrible, unsafe practices were exposed and people were saved. This film made me think twice about eating a banana, but hopefully you’ll be able to enjoy this dessert knowing things have improved for many banana workers!
