Effects of Climate Change
Climate change and global warming have become growing issues during the last couple years. This change in the world's climate has a direct effect on the agriculture of the world and also the people. Earth is likely to warm up by 2-5 degrees Celsius, or 35.6 to 41 degrees Fahrenheit, by the year 2100. The earth has not been 5 degrees Celsius warmer in 55 million years so nobody quite knows what it will be like and that is a scary thought. With this change in temperatures, there would be a change in agriculture. About 450 million people world wide depend on agriculture for their source of food and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that 1.02 billion people are hungry around the world. These numbers are astounding and are only going to get larger as the population of the world increases (Dr. Karowe).

Another thing that could possibly happen due to the world climate change is the fact that there could be on going droughts throughout the world. These droughts could mean that agriculture could be virtually vanished in some areas. 40 percent of the earth's surface is used for agriculture and 25 percent cannot be used due to it being too dry or it cannot be irrigated and if these droughts occur than it will only lead to more land that can't used for farming or even dry up some of the land that is currently being used. Another thing that could happen because of this drought is that all of those people who depend on agriculture as a source of food would be hopeless and it could lead to mass amounts of starvation and death in the millions (Dr. Karowe).

Some Causes of the Climate Change
The best estimate is that a little more than 95 percent of what causes this climate change to occur is the use of fossil fuels and the deforestation of trees. When burned, fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum, and oil emit carbon-dioxide and other pollutants into the earth's atmosphere. This carbon-dioxide and other pollutants are contributors to the damaging of the earth's o-zone and have a direct contribution to global warming. When it comes to deforestation, trees bring carbon-dioxide out of the air and when they are burned down, their carbons go directly into the atmosphere (Dr. Karowe).

What Can Be Done?
There are ways to help to prevent this climate change to take place. For one thing, you could weatherize your home by insulating your attic and also by weather stripping and chalking around windows and doors. Another thing that can be done is to drive a fuel-efficent car. This would cut down on the carbons being put into the atmosphere. Although these are both good ways to help to prevent climate change, perhaps the best way would be to vote for and encourage policymakers to make better choices for our environment and our future (Dr. Karowe).
